Show Description
Harvard Ballet Company’s With Love will emphasize the power of human connection through dance and live music as we emerge from the pandemic as a community.
Divided into acts based on tone, each piece will explore a different aspect of interpersonal relationships through varying lenses of themes such as love, loss, friendship, community, acceptance, and heartbreak.
One of the purposes of dance as an art form is to convey feeling to the audience without words, as the dancer acts as a catalyst for shared human experience. The stage becomes a mirror for the audience to reflect on their own experiences through the lens of an external actor. Therefore, our show will acknowledge the link between each audience member and each performing member, as we actively organize the show with this sentiment of connection in mind. This welcomes audience participation in the show, allowing our company to reach beyond the ballet world and include everyone, dancers and audience members alike.
Furthermore, we want to create an immersive experience for the audience. Choreographers are encouraged to choreograph pieces that allow for interaction with the audience. The show will work to create an abstract storyline of human emotion that audience members can relate to through their own interpretations and experiences. The story will be unique to each audience member as their lived experience will cause them to take away a distinct story from the abstract one we are presenting.
